A timeline instead of a single number

Long goals are easier to stick with when they are broken into stops along the way. This calculator projects your net worth forward month by month and records the date it crosses each milestone, along with how old you will be. The gaps between milestones shrink as compounding takes over, which is encouraging to watch when the first stops feel slow.

Net worth here means investable savings that grow at the return you enter. Home equity can count toward your real net worth, but it usually grows at a different rate and you cannot spend it without selling or borrowing, so many people track it separately.

Using milestones well

Pick the next milestone, not the last one, as your working goal. If $250,000 is 4 years away, a yearly check-in tells you whether you are ahead or behind and by how much. If you fall behind after a bad market year, that is normal; the timeline assumes a smooth average return, while real markets move in bursts.

Common questions

What net worth milestones matter most?

Common ones are $100k (compounding starts to show), $500k, and $1 million. Many FIRE savers also track their personal FIRE number.

Should I include my house?

You can, but home equity rarely grows at stock-market rates and is not easy to spend. Tracking investments separately gives a clearer picture of financial independence.

How often should I check?

Once or twice a year is plenty. Checking monthly mostly shows market noise.
